Text of book, A Child’s Garden of Bible Verses, is integrated with photographic images from July 2008 National Geographic magazine of bodies of mountain gorillas killed by Congolese poachers. Carried aloft on scaffolding by grieving villagers, they bear an uncanny resemblance to the book’s illustration of three victims of crucifixion. Blue rosary beads with black Jesus on cross function as a bookmark. A life-sized rubber gorilla hand, clutching bamboo as in the National Geographic photo, projects from the back right side of book.
